Spotless Stainless Rust Remover (Cleaner) and Protector is a revolutionary new product that removes rust and the "free iron" that causes rust from Stainless Steel and enables a rich chromium surface on Stainless Steel which reacts with oxygen in the air to form a tough protective oxide layer. This oxide layer protects Stainless Steel and will extend the time between cleaning. Spotless Stainless does not use caustic chemicals that are dangerous and toxic to the environment. The exposed surface iron in Stainless Steel reacts with the oxygen in air and can form ferric oxide, commonly know as rust. Spotless Stainless Rust Remover (Cleaner) removes both the ferric oxide (rust) and the "free iron" on the surface of Stainless Steel by means of a chemical treatment. A rich chromium surfaced is left behind and when exposed to air will react with oxygen to form an oxide layer that protects the steel from corrosion. The protective oxide layer can be damaged by exposing it to materials (tools), chlorides (salts), bleach, and other harsh chemicals. The marine environment is especially harsh on Stainless Steel. In addition, abrasives such as polishes may damage the protective layer of Stainless Steel. Damage to the protective layer exposes the iron in the steel to the atmosphere which reacts with oxygen to create ferric oxide (rust). Many rust removal products use Phosphoric Acid to remove rust. Phosphoric Acid has been used to remove rust from Carbon Steel for many years and in general (depends on how much acid is used) works well at removing rust from Carbon Steel. Phosphoric Acid may remove rust (ferric oxide) from Stainless Steel but will not address the root cause of rust the "free iron" on the surface of Stainless Steel. By not removing the "free iron" rust will return quickly and in most cases you will have more rust than before. Most products that use Phosphoric Acid are used to prep Carbon Steel before painting. Nitric acid will remove the "free iron" but is toxic, requires extensive protection and expensive disposal processes. Nitric acid attacks the surface iron first, but when that iron diminishes the other elements in Stainless Steel are removed. This effectively limits the depth of the final protective chrome oxide layer and introduces heavy metals which are classified as hazardous waste into the environment. In general, Nitric Acid is used in industrial, (controlled) environments by trained personnel. Spotless Stainless, Rust Remover (Cleaner) and Protector removes both rust and the surface iron and will not attack the other elements in Stainless Steel. Spotless Stainless uses a chemical formulation that is generally regarded as safe (GRAS) by the FDA. Spotless Stainless, Rust Remover (Cleaner) and Protector works best when temperatures are greater than 70 degrees F. The time needed for removing rust and "free iron" is related to the temperature. Warmer temperatures will yield better results in less time. Spotless Stainless, Stainless Steel Rust Remover (Cleaner) and Protector is the first environmentally friendly product available to the marine industry that restores Stainless Steel's protective layer and will make your Stainless Steel SPARKLE! |
