FAQ - Spotless Stainless Removes Rust, Protects Stainless Steel

How do I know which Spotless Stainless product to use?
Spotless Stainless, Rust Remover and Protector is used to remove iron oxide (rust) and
remove free iron from the surface of Stainless Steel. By removing the free iron Spotless
Stainless leaves a chromium rich layer which will react with oxygen to form Chromium
Oxide. Wait 24 hours after cleaning with Spotless Stainless to allow a thicker protective
layer to form. Spotless Stainless extended protection (coming soon) coats the Stainless
Steel with a protective coating that will reduce the negative affects of the marine
environment. Extended protection is applied after cleaning with Spotless Stainless Rust
Remover and Protector.

What are the factors that control the effectiveness of Spotless Stainless?
Spotless Stainless is a chemical process that removes rust and "free iron" from the surface
of Stainless Steel. Spotless Stainless Rust Remover must remain moist during the treatment
period. When using in direct sunlight or other hot environments, it may be necessary to
periodically mist the surface lightly with water or lightly reapply Rust Remover with a
brush to keep the solution from drying. Other factors are temperature and time. Spotless
Stainless Rust Remover can be used at room temp (70 degrees F) and up to 170 degrees F.
The lower the temperature the more time may be required to get maximum results. The
warmer the temperature the better the results in less time.

Is Spotless Stainless a polish?
No, polishes are generally abrasive and may cause damage to the surface of stainless steel
by removing the chromium Oxide layer to protect Stainless Steel. Spotless Stainless
removes both rust (iron oxide) and the "free iron" that causes rust from the surface of
Stainless Steel. Spotless Stainless Rust Remover is specifically designed for the marine
environment to provide efficient removal of rust and "free iron" from the surface of

How long does Spotless Stainless Cleaner and Protector Last?
This depends on the quality of the Stainless Steel being cleaned, the environment and is
difficult to predict. We recommend after removing the rust and "free iron" with Spotless
Stainless Rust Remover (Cleaner) use a surface coating such as Spotless Stainless Extended
Protection (coming soon). The Extended Protection product provides a coating (another
layer) over the surface of Stainless to keep the harsh elements away from the steel. Regular
use of Spotless Stainless cleaner will extend the life of Stainless Steel.
